Controversial kwaito artist and TV presenter Bonginkosi “Zola 7” Dlamini has been hiding a big secret for the past seven years.
Sunday World exclusively learned this week that the artist has allegedly been married to a Soweto woman for almost 10 years but has never lived with her in the same house.
Zola (38) has been traditionally married to Sibongile Nkabinde from Klipspruit in Soweto, and they have two daughters – aged seven and two – together. They are expecting a third child.
These tidbits were revealed by one of Nkabinde’s close friends after it emerged that there was a new woman in Zola’s life.
The source added that Nkabinde (32) has been living with Zola’s mother in Soweto since 2009 after their traditional wedding.
When contacted by Sunday World Zola said: “Do you know the difference between an artist in public and in private?” He then hung up and could not be reached for comment. He also did not respond to text messages.
Nkabinde said: “To be honest with you, I don’t want to talk to you about my husband. I don’t want to discuss him with the papers. He has tried so much to keep this out of the papers.”
Nkabinde confirmed that she stays with Zola’s mother but refused to comment about their marriage arrangement and her pregnancy.
Her friend said the two have been together since 2001.
“Even Zola’s baby mamas know her. She has a beautiful relationship with his kids. She’s like a mother to them and doesn’t have a problem staying with her mother-in-law in Dobsonville in the house that Zola bought for his mother.
“Zola’s mother loves her makoti and the reason Zola bought the house was for his children to grow up there with his mother so that they can remain humble and know how to live with people,” said the friend.
She said that it was an agreement between Zola and Nkabinde that she stays with his mother because his Melville house was “chaotic” for raising kids as he was also running his recording studio from it.
The friend said that it was time for Mzansi to know that Zola is a married man and that when he released the hit song Sibongile it was a dedication to his wife.
“These cheap girls should stop claiming Zola. His wife is always saying it will pass because these women are just trophies. I can tell you that she’s very frustrated as much as she has hopes that things will eventually get better because Zola is not growing any younger,” she said.
Zola has two other children with his ex-girlfriend Garnett Maseko from whom he had a bitter split.
He also has a child with another baby mama known only as Nozipho.
