Newcastle disease claims 15,687 birds in four months

Omuthiya – Some 15,687 birds, including chickens, doves and other wild birds in the Northern Communal Areas (NCAs) have died since the outbreak of Newcastle disease in the area last August. About 316 026 birds have been vaccinated in the four regions to date.

According to deputy chief state veterinarian Dr John Shoopala, from their observations in the regions of Omusati, Oshana, Ohangwena and Oshikoto, the majority of birds that died from the disease were domestic chickens.
